#WeHeartMidwives

SafeHands loves midwives. For the past 16 years, we’ve seen the impact they have on the lives of women, families, and communities around the world. This December, we want to share the love with midwives everywhere through our campaign - #WeHeartMidwives.

Incredible midwives, like Mastewale, save lives every day and in doing so make their communities better. We met midwife Mastawale while filming Maternity Waiting Homes in Amhara Ethiopia. At 27 years old, Mastewale is a dedicated and compassionate midwife, and is concerned that essential messages are not reaching the women who need it most.

“Tablets and films allow first-time mothers to learn from the real-life experiences of other women” asserts midwife Mastawale at her antenatal class. Despite the lack of electricity, Mastawale regularly screens films on childbirth thanks to a solar tablet.

Today our project Labour at the Last Mile is providing vital information to high-risk pregnant women as part of their antenatal care. Midwives, like Mastewale, are screening our film at health centres, health posts, and community meetings to explain the benefits of visiting a maternity waiting home before labour startsThe message is also being shared via community radio across Amhara region via community radio.

“They make our work more efficient and help us raise awareness” Mastawale says of the solar tablets. A solar tablet supports Mastawale to do what she does best: ensure all women she meets deliver in the safety of a health centre.

Please join us to show your love to midwives like Mastawale to deliver vital antenatal care with help from our solar tablet. £37 would equip midwives with a solar tablet to deliver vital health messages in areas with little or no electricity.
